Location & Facilities

Johanna & David extend a warm welcome to their guests. Their dog friendly bed and breakfast accomodation Threadneedle is situated on the edge of Exmoor National Park, close to the country town of Dulverton.

Threadneedle B and B is the ideal place to relax in comfort and savour the delights of life on Exmoor. Our resident Shetland sheepdogs, Scamp and Jazz love meeting new dogs and their owners.

Johanna has been nominated as one of the AA Landladies Of The Year in 1999, 2002 and 2006.

Threadneedle Exmoor, B and B is set in 3 acres and is built in the style of a Devon longhouse. It has full central heating and spacious well appointed en-suite accommodation. The bedrooms, The Duck House and Piggies are individually furnished and both have digital televisions and hospitality trays.

Threadneedle B and B has block built stables and a large stable yard, which makes it ideal for guests wishing to bring their horses on holiday with them, and discover Exmoor on horseback. Do-it-yourself livery bedding and feed are available by arrangement.

The Bedrooms

The Duck House is on the site of the original building which was used by local farmers to house the ducks and geese prior to them being sold at the market. It has an en-suite double width shower and a King size bed which can be readily adapted to twin beds. En-suite facilities, hospitality tray and digital T.V.

You share this room with some of Johanna’s ornamental pigs, which she has collected over the years. This spacious double room has en-suite facilities. The early morning sun greets you as you wake.

Relax and enjoy your first brew of the day and savour the view across the fields and open countryside. Smoking is not permitted in bedrooms.

The Dining Room

Our award winning food is served in the light and airy dining room, which overlooks the garden and surrounding fields. Menus are planned making use of local and homegrown produce to create favourite regional dishes.

The generous breakfasts leave most guests replete and ready to enjoy their day exploring Exmoor. Meals are planned taking into account guests’ dietary needs.

Recreation & Relaxation

Johanna and David have extensive knowledge of the area, and also have a large range of guides, maps and books about Exmoor and surrounding areas. Why not take advantage of one of their “Wildlife” or “Hospitality” evenings during your stay at Threadneedle? The Red deer are a special attraction of Exmoor and often difficult to find. The unique and native Exmoor Pony can also prove to be quite elusive. Exmoor is totally unspoilt and provides a natural habitat for many wild animals and birds. It is the perfect location for those of you who love bird watching. Threadneedle B&B is close to the venue for the English National Sheepdog Trials and Devon Country Fayre.

Fishing permits can be obtained locally to allow the keen fishermen amongst you to enjoy a day on the river Barle or Exe or at the near-by Wimbleball Lake; we also have several local trout fisheries that are open to the public. Sea fishing can be arranged from Ilfracombe or Minehead. There are many good spots to fish from the shore.

Why not plan a short Break on Exmoor at Threadneedle B & B? Take advantage of our seasonal special offers and mid week breaks. Threadneedle B and B is the ideal location to unwind from the stresses of every day life. The more energetic may like to roam across Exmoor discovering its natural beauty or join one of the Exmoor National Park Rangers on an organised ramble across the moor. Whatever you like to do on holiday Exmoor offers wonderful opportunities to walk, cycle, swim, fish, bird-watch, horse ride, paint and draw and enjoy the good food and drink produced and served locally.

Exmoor has some 525 miles of footpaths and over 350 miles of bridle-ways to explore. The 267 square miles of Exmoor National Park is an unspoilt wilderness. "The National Cycle network"The West Country Way”, “The Coleridge Way” and "The Tarka Trail" allows walkers and cyclists to enjoy wonderful scenery as they pass through wooded river valleys; coastal areas and open moor-land. The North Devon coast has many award winning beaches, which are ideal for surfing or a family day out. The “Two Moors Way” and the “South West Coast Path” enable walkers to roam freely over way-marked paths where breathtaking scenery can be enjoyed. Exmoor has it’s own “Olympic Challenge”, Dunkery Beacon. This is the highest point on Exmoor 1705 ft (519 m) above sea level. From the top you can enjoy exhilarating views across Exmoor, Bristol Channel and the South Wales coast. Exmoor is also host to the "Ironman UK" Triathlon based at Wimbleball Lake; 10 minutes drive from Threadneedle B&B. The lake has excellent watersport facilities and daily fishing permits can be purchased.

For the less energetic why not visit the romantic location “ The Doone Valley”, home to the fictional Lorna Doone and John Ridd. "The Valley of the Rocks", Woody Bay Lynton and Lynmouth known as “Little Switzerland” offer an enchanting excursion.

If you enjoy dining out there are some superb pubs and restaurants to be found on Exmoor. Johanna and David will be pleased to direct you to the best the area has to offer.

The Queens Theatre in Barnstaple and the Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe present a varied and modern programme of events. Exmoor is host to many festivals and events throughout the year “The Two Moors Music Festival”, “The North Devon Festival” and the North Devon and Exmoor Walking and Cycling Festival.

Threadneedle Bed and Breakfast is just 45 minutes drive from the county town of Somerset, Taunton, home to the Somerset Cricket Team “The Cider Men.” In August, Taunton stages the “Chelsea Flower Show of the West”, a spectacular and colourful display of floral art and craft for all the family to enjoy.

Exmoor has some food specialities of its own which should be enjoyed during your stay on Exmoor at Threadneedle B&B. Delicious beef produced from the Red Ruby Devon Cattle. Traditional farmhouse cider, or an irresistible plate of fresh scones served with Whortleberry Jam and a generous bowl of Clotted Cream and a freshly brewed pot of tea, “The Cream Tea”
